Expatriates in Tanzania complain of long work hours, long commutes, poor job security and don’t feel very welcome, says a recent report by Expat Insider.
Tanzania dropped 9 positions to place in the bottom 10 in the survey of 67 countries by over 14,000 respondents.
Mozambique, Egypt and Nigeria also placed in the bottom 10.
Expats say they are content with Tanzania’s leisure activities, safety, friendliness, language, finding friends, career opportunities, personal finance, the cost of living and work life balance.
How does Tanzania compare to other African countries in the survey?
The complaints come in the categories of personal happiness, travel and transport, health and well-being, feeling welcome, job security and personal relationships.
An average work week of 50.9 hours is listed by respondents in Tanzania — against a global average of 44.6 hours per week.
Uganda, up 20 positions since last year, is the top expat destination in Africa; Taiwan is the number one destination globally.
The average expat surveyed is 43 years old, 81 percent have a university degree and 31 percent say they could be content to stay abroad forever.
Representatives of 174 nationalities living and working abroad responded to the survey.
Despite the name, the report states they ‘don’t only address traditional expats. Our participants’ backgrounds and their reasons for moving are as multi-faceted as the globe itself.’
